Despite the vast resources invested in addiction treatment, drug-involved overdose deaths in the U.S. have steadily increased in recent years. So, we set out to focus on the unique needs of people with a SUD – and the providers who treat them – to improve patient outcomes based on the reality that specialized, data-informed care is often more effective than generalized care.
Toxicology that is tailored to substance use disorders gives a provider only the information they need to understand a patient’s progress in treatment. A specialized toxicology panel eliminates unnecessary information, while highlighting information providers need most to help a patient achieve recovery.
The SUDx dashboard includes digital tools providers can use to optimize treatment for patients with a substance use disorder (SUD). Enabled by clinically validated, patent-pending algorithms, these tools include a patient’s stability scores, which quantify the likelihood of substance use and medication adherence at a patient’s next appointment, and a Treatment Twin which projects the most likely treatment path in response to standard interventions.
These digital tools, along with a patient’s historical toxicology data, are captured graphically and numerically on SUDx’s clinical dashboard, which providers can access with a tablet, phone, or computer.
SUDx’s Data Scientist Albert Burgess-Hull, PhD collaborated with scientists at the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) and addiction psychiatrists at a leading academic teaching hospital to develop real-time computational risk models for an OUD patient population. As documented in the peer-reviewed Journal of Addiction Medicine, the stability score models enable us to present historical patient stability scores graphically.
The SUDx Treatment Twin illustrates the most likely path a patient will take in treatment. The Treatment Twin display allows providers to visualize how each patient will progress if normal standards of care are deployed. Greater than 80% of patients respond well to treatment but the balance of patients in the remaining two trajectories will likely prove resistant to standard interventions.
Results generated from SUDx’s Treatment Twin model can inspire confidence in recovery for most patients while implying additional interventions for those who are expected to be resistant to standard treatment. It allows clinicians to personalize care for each patient, better plan and allocate resources to the right patients at the right time, and tailor interventions with greater foresight and efficiency.
The digital tools, which reflect more than 100,000 patient samples to date, are continuously re-validated as new data are collected.
Yes. In addition to helping to improve health outcomes on a visit-by-visit, patient-by-patient basis, metrics displayed on SUDx’s dashboard and generated by our proprietary models can be used to provide an overall description of the health status of a selected group of patients, clinics, or practices. These data can also be combined with other objective metrics to assess the overall quality of outcomes, including treatment retention. Talk to us if you are interested in seeing the data aggregated for your practice.
SUDx created the clinical dashboard to put the best, most relevant patient information at a provider’s fingertips to enhance the efficiency and efficacy of their care. By using a tablet, phone, or computer, a provider can access the dashboard’s graphical display of a patient’s historic toxicology results, eliminating the time consuming process of referencing multiple PDF files. Providers treating patients with an OUD will also see a patient’s stability scores and Treatment Twin.
The confidentiality with which a patient’s urine toxicology and health data are collected and maintained is assured by robust standards including end-to-end encryption, strong authentication controls, network security, security testing and audits, and regular training. The patient data used to develop, validate, and refine our models are stored on Google’s cloud servers with commercial-grade security frameworks.
SUDx is at its core, a traditional toxicology lab. Patient samples are generally collected by providers and transported via SUDx courier to our laboratory. Results can be delivered via encrypted email, fax, or directly to customer EHRs. Supplies can be ordered on our website.
SUDx strives to provide the best customer service in the industry, ensuring that your needs are met with the highest level of attention and care. Reach out anytime with questions, concerns, or suggestions.
